The Vendée Department, Loire

Vendée Wine Tours

Vendée Wine Tours

The department of the Vendée is perhaps best known for its beautiful seaside resorts and the world-famous Puy du Fou. However, since 2011, it has also been recognised by the French wine authorities as one of the up and coming stars of the French wine world.

In 2011, Vendée wines were afforded AOC status after decades of hard work and dedication to the constant improvement of quality and vineyard management. The days when basic wine was made for consumption by family and friends have long gone. Now, the younger generation of winemakers are flexing their muscles and producing wine fit for the best tables anywhere.

The one-day or two-day tours afford a fascinating insight into how this development is actually taking place. We will visit the vineyards, meet the winemakers, and taste the fruits of their labours. The regions of Mareuil, Brem, Vix, Chantonnay and Pissotte each have their individual characteristics, as do their wines.

The one-day visit will consist of one or two morning visits and one or two afternoon visits depending on the regions and your home base. A lunch with wine is included. The two-day option will include visits to all five regions, two lunches, and overnight accommodation.

For French Wine Tours clients visiting other wine regions, the Vendée can be included as a side trip from the Loire. Details, as always with our tailor-made tours, to be discussed.

Now is the time to experience a wine region on the move.
